Hundreds of civilians gathered in tehsil Tump of district Kech to protest against the rampant load-shedding in the Makran region. The protestors said that due to disturbance in electrical supply, the inhabitants are suffering for every drop of water.

According to reports, women and children gathered on the roads in the blistering summer sun to protest against the load-shedding in the region. Andalib Gichki, an academic, activist and author, led the protest.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers said that the Jaki Gore grid station used to supply 70 megawatts of electricity to the Makran region. Now the supply has been reduced to just 10 megawatts, which is not enough to meet the needs of the inhabitants of the region. Electricity supply is now cut off during the day, the region receives just a few hours of electricity in the night, they said.

District Kech is one of the driest regions of Balochistan; it receives very low amounts of rain and the temperature remains above 40 degrees Celsius in the summer days. The low electrical supply has only added to the woes of the locals.
