Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC) said in a recent media statement that “administrative unlawfulness” is on the rise in the University of Balochistan in Quetta. The spokesperson for the group said that the administration is continuously ramping up the tuition fee, scholarships are on a halt and the university authorities are treating the students “inappropriately.”

The BSAC said in the statement that the University of Balochistan is the largest academic institution in Balochistan, and thousands of students from various regions flock to it in pursuit of education. The rampant “administrative unlawfulness” is jeopardizing the future of these students, the statement read.

BSAC spokesperson said the incumbent vice-chancellor has eliminated the Ehsaas and Balochistan Education Endowment Fund (BEEF) scholarships, which finance the education of numerous Baloch students in the university. He said that when the students approached the administration to inquire about the scholarships, they were treated harshly and “inappropriately.”

The statement further read that the university administration has failed to provide any basic facilities to the students. The condition of the varsity hostels is “abysmal” and the security guards consistently “harass” the students on the pretext of security.

The spokesperson said that due to the lack of academic institutions in Balochistan, the University of Balochistan serves as a haven for the necessitous students who flock to the varsity from the poverty-stricken regions of Balochistan. “Administrative unlawfulness” is an impediment for such students, and we request the varsity administration and the provincial government to take notice of the issue as soon as possible.
