Scores of civilians took to the roads on Thursday against what they called the “increasing violence in the area, the prejudicial behaviour of the district administration, the lawlessness and the growing corruption.” The protestors said that the key administrative positions – like the assistant deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner – are vacant and the state of law and order is deteriorating.
According to reports, the National Party called for protests in Barkhan where scores of individuals gathered to protest against the district administration. Several prominent National Party members also participated in the demonstration raised slogans against the administration.
Addressing the demonstration, the speakers said that the deputy commissioner stationed in Barkhan is a “facilitator” of the local ministers. They lamented that other key positions in the administration have been vacant for a long time.
They said that per a well-thought-out conspiracy, the conditions Barkhan are being worsened – the “Kalashnikov culture” is being revived and in-fighting is being promoted once again. They said that due to the negligence of the authorities, several youngsters have lost their lives in the infighting.
The speakers said that “lawlessness” has reached unprecedented levels in Balochistan – good governance is virtually non-existent and the corruption and favouritism have further deteriorated the condition.
