The Pakistani security forces in Kharan reportedly sustained heavy material damage as a result of an attack that was carried on Friday night. In another development, an alleged “facilitator” of the security forces was shot dead in Kech. Baloch armed groups have claimed responsibility for both of the attacks.
According to the details, the check post of the Pakistani security forces was attacked in the Hindu Muhalla area of district Kharan on Friday night. Baloch “pro-independence” group United Baloch Army (UBA) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that its fighters hurled a grenade into the check post at a time when a significant number of the forces’ personnel were inside. UBA said that the forces sustained heavy material damages as a result of the attack.
Baloch Republican Army (BRA), another “pro-independence” group active in Balochistan, said in a media statement that its fighter executed a “facilitator” of the Pakistani security forces in district Kech. The man, identified as Fahad s/o Chakar, was allegedly involved in spying on the Baloch nationalists at Pakistan’s behest. The BRA also alleged that Fahad, who also went by the alias Nawab, was also the driving forces behind many of the social issues plaguing the society.
The spokesperson for the Baloch Republican Army said that Fahad was a former “sarmachar” of the BRA who capitulated to the Pakistani forces in 2018 and subsequently participated in several operations against the Baloch “pro-independence” groups. He further alleged that Fahad also leads a ‘death squad’ – a group of local goons allegedly working on the behest of the Pakistani forces – and had given away the location of the houses of Baloch insurgents to the security forces in several military operations.
The spokesperson said that the group had informed Fahad’s family members and also attempted to personally dissuade him of his activities, but he did not pay heed to any of the warnings and the group had to do away with him. The spokesperson appealed to the public to distance themselves from the “facilitators” of the Pakistani state, as they can be targeted at any time anywhere.
The sources have revealed that a significant number of Pakistani security forces arrived in Kharan on Saturday and forcibly shut down an entire marketplace. The authorities have not yet commented on the forces’ advancement, but the locals fear that a large-scale military operation might be imminent.
