At least 14 persons died and 15 others were injured after a Karachi-bound bus turned turtle near Uthal early on Tuesday.

The passenger bus was travelling from Panjgur to Karachi when it met the accident near Wayar Farm in Uthal, Balochistan.

The dead include five women and two children, whereas, the condition of eight injured passengers is critical.

The accident happened at 2am but the rescue teams arrived three hours after the accident. Sources say the delay in initiating rescue process further exacerbated the death toll.

The bodies and injured were later shifted to District Headquarter Hospital Uthal, while at least 6 passengers have been taken to Karachi due to their critical condition.

The number of traffic accidents in Balochistan have been increasing day by day, the main causes of traffic accidents are narrow and dilapidated highways as well as negligence of drivers.

Only two weeks ago in Uthal, Eight people, including two Levies officers, were killed after a passenger coach crashed into a security check post and overturned.

Despite such high number of accidents, emergency facilities are not available on most highways of Balochistan. Proper healthcare facilities for emergency medical aid are completely absent. Victims of road mishaps have to be transported hundreds of kilometres away to major towns and many do not survive the long journeys.
