Resentments of BMC students

The Balochistan Post

Frustration-aggression displacement theory was proposed by John Dollard and others in 1939, which was further developed in 1941 and 1969. This Psychology theory has explained the change in human behaviours, steps, intent and plan due to the circumstances.

The circumstances, if do not let you achieve the desired goal for which you have been working since many years, simply frustrate you and results into the aggression, which would be in the form of assault, violence and suicidal attempts.

The suicide is common way for the students in Pakistan to get rid of their frustration. One Year ago a student of the University of Sindh Jamshoro, Naila Rind had allegedly killed herself in the hostel. Similarly, Abdul Basit, a student of Bachelor of Dental Surgery, committed suicide after the university administration refused to allow him to appear in the final year examination for ‘being late’.

The same situation is being reported in Baluchistan for a few years now. The students are being tortured continuously by teachers and administration. This includes Bolan Medical College, which is an established medical college in Balochistan, where thousands of students compete each year for only few places.

Few years ago 50 students of a  Batch failed exams, In 2016, 25 students of the Batch had to repeat years and now only 50% of BDS class have passed, which has astonished every student.

The annual result of MBBS batch 2014-15 was about 18 percent and 13 students were failed in supplementary exams in 2018 too. During the supplementary exams, a student from district Bolan left his MBBS studies just because he couldn’t tolerate the mental torture by the teachers during practical viva exams. After the unjust result of this year, the students could not tolerate it anymore and came out of their hostels chanting slogans against the principle.

More than 20 students have to repeat an year, If we analyse the time these students had given to their studies, more than 20 years are wasted by this one unjust result.

The only reason that administration is giving is that these students had low attendance percentage. Is it a justified excuse? We had faced a similar situation three years ago, when students had a low percentage, but Ex Principle Mr Sadat arranged extra classes (legally) so that they could reach the required attendance percentage. He took that step because he was concerned about the future of Students.

But today the situation is different, students pay double fees for exams, study six months, revise the books again and again but all they get is the failure, not because they did not work hard, but because they were targeted by the administration.

Moreover, the students are being threatened to vacate the hostels within 24 hours. No authority dares question the tactics of administration to suppress students.

BMC’s standard is exacerbating, and only Principle can be held responsible for this, but the governmdnt has also been playing its part by ignoring such issues.

The government and other concerned authorities should create new infrastructures so that it provides relaxed environment for the students, try to promote their capabilities and do not push them back to the stone age.
