A senior Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officer was killed in an armed attack in Balochistan’s Noshki district on Thursday, police sources said, with the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) later claiming responsibility for the killing.
Police sources identified the officer as DSP Mama Afzal, who was serving in the CTD.
According to police sources, unidentified armed men opened fire on him near Ahmed Wal Stop in Noshki city, leaving him seriously injured.
He was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, but later died of his injuries, sources said.
In a short statement issued to the media, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the group’s fighters had killed Deputy Superintendent of Police and CTD officer Afzal Muhammad Hasni in an armed attack in Noshki Bazaar.
The BLA said the operation was carried out by its Special Tactical Operations Squad, known as STOS.
Jeeyand Baloch alleged that the officer was directly involved in what the group called “Baloch genocide policies,” adding that a detailed statement would be issued later.
