At least seven people were killed and 568 others injured in 438 traffic accidents reported across highways in Balochistan over the course of a week, according to official data.

The figures were released in the second weekly highway incident report for March 2026 by Medical Emergency Response Centres 1122 Balochistan (MERC). The report states that hundreds of accidents occurred on various national highways across Balochistan during the reporting period.

According to the data, the highest number of incidents was recorded within the jurisdiction of the trauma centre in Zhob, where 159 accidents left 185 people injured.

In the area covered by the trauma centre in Khuzdar, 76 accidents were reported, resulting in 116 injuries.

The report also noted that in Winder in Lasbela District, 26 accidents left 31 people injured and three dead. Additional fatalities were reported in separate incidents in Baghbana in Khuzdar, Tiyara in Lasbela, and Ziarat Cross in Pishin.

Other areas where accidents were recorded included Lak Pass in Mastung, Kalat, Saranan in Pishin, Nasei in Qilla Saifullah, Gokart in Kachhi District, Bakhtiarabad in Sibbi, Rakhni in Barkhan, Dasht and Hoshab in Kech District, Lyari in Lasbela, and Pasni in Gwadar District, among other locations. Injured individuals were provided emergency medical assistance.

Officials said that during the same week, 71 people were also provided outpatient medical treatment at various centres. Rescue teams responded to incidents and transferred the injured to nearby hospitals for further care.

Local residents and observers have frequently attributed the high number of road accidents in Balochistan to poorly maintained and ageing road infrastructure, as well as the lack of effective traffic regulation and enforcement across the region. Authorities, however, have mainly urged drivers to avoid speeding and follow traffic rules while travelling on national highways in order to help reduce accidents.
