Two people were allegedly shot dead by members of pro-government militias in Kech district of Balochistan on Saturday, according to local sources.

Sources said armed assailants opened fire in Mand, killing a man identified as Mulla Bahram.

Earlier in the day, another young man, Izhar, son of Mujeeb and a resident of Mand, was shot inside his shop in the Soro area. He later died of his injuries.

Witnesses alleged that both attacks were carried out by members of a militia locally referred to as “death squads.”

These groups are reported to operate across Balochistan and have been accused of kidnappings for ransom, enforced disappearances, extortion and the targeted killings of students, activists and political opponents. Observers say they are backed by the Pakistani military, which has given them a free hand to operate in return for their services.

Residents in Mand also criticised the lack of healthcare facilities, noting the town has no hospital. Patients are forced to travel more than 110 kilometres to Turbat on poor roads. Locals said Izhar might have survived had basic medical care been available nearby.
