Armed men launched a coordinated attack on Pakistani forces in Balochistan’s Surab district on Sunday night, storming a customs checkpoint, seizing military equipment, and ambushing a Pakistani military convoy, according to local sources.

Sources said the assailants entered Surab city under cover of darkness and swiftly took control of the customs checkpoint. The attackers reportedly seized weapons and communication equipment stationed at the post before launching further actions in the area.

Following the initial assault, the armed men reportedly set up snap checking points across the area, restricting movement along the main highway. When Pakistani security forces attempted to respond, their convoy was ambushed, resulting in damage to military vehicles and unconfirmed reports of casualties.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement or confirm the number of injuries or fatalities.

Surab, located approximately 212 kilometres from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, has witnessed a sharp uptick in armed attacks in recent months.

In early July, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for a major assault on a military camp in Surab’s Gidar area, stating that it had killed 18 soldiers and briefly seized parts of the facility.

In May, the same group claimed responsibility for a large-scale operation in Surab, during which it said its fighters seized control of the city and “paralysed all military, administrative, and financial structures of the state.”

No group had claimed responsibility for the latest attacks at the time of publication.
