A series of attacks targeting Pakistani security forces have been reported across Balochistan, resulting in multiple casualties. Armed men launched attacks on military and police personnel in different locations, with BLA later claiming responsibility for the Kalat attack.
IED Attack in Kalat
In the Harboi area of Kalat, a military vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED), leaving at least ten soldiers either dead or wounded. The vehicle was completely destroyed in the blast. This attack marks the second such incident in the region in recent days. On Monday, another ambush targeted Pakistan Army personnel, with the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) later claiming responsibility.
According to Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the ambush resulted in four Pakistani soldiers being killed and six others injured. The group also seized weapons from the security personnel. The BLA’s media wing, “Hakkal,” released a 3-minute and 18-second video documenting the attack.
Police Station Attacked in Khuzdar
Separately, armed men attacked a police station in the Wadh area of Khuzdar on Monday night. Following the assault, Frontier Corps (FC) and Levies forces were deployed as reinforcements. Clashes between security forces and the attackers were reported, though official casualty figures remain undisclosed.
As of now, Pakistani military and government officials have not issued any statements regarding the attacks.
BLA Gaining Popularity Among Baloch People – Akhtar Mengal
In a recent interview, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, leader of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal), highlighted the growing support for the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) among the local population. Mengal described the group as being perceived as a “savior” by many Baloch residents due to increasing state repression and security force operations in the province.
He claimed that the BLA exerts influence over significant parts of Balochistan, particularly in 23 districts, where he alleged the government has lost control. According to Mengal, BLA fighters have been seen entering towns, seizing control of government institutions such as NADRA offices and Levies police stations, and leaving unchallenged.
Mengal attributed the BLA’s rising prominence to the actions of Pakistani security forces, which he accused of using oppressive tactics, including enforced disappearances. “The people of Balochistan, especially women and children, now view BLA fighters as protectors. They pray for them, as they believe they are their saviors,” he said.
He further emphasized that the resistance movement in Balochistan is deeply rooted in the grievances of the local population and cannot be suppressed through military means alone.
The situation in Balochistan remains tense, with continued reports of militant activity and security operations in the region.
