Baloch Raji Ajoi Sangar (BRAS) has claimed responsibility for an attack on Pakistani forces in Barkhan, Kohlu district, stating that 13 soldiers were killed and eight others injured during the confrontation. The goup said it also lost a fighter in the confrontation.
In a statement, BRAS spokesperson Baloch Khan said that their fighters ambushed Pakistani forces advancing into the Gulo Shamchodi area of Barkhan on February 23, 2025. The group said that the Pakistani forces were advancing into the area to carry out a military operation. The attack reportedly began when the soldiers, using motorcycles and vehicles, moved into the region. The fighters, lying in wait, launched assaults from multiple positions, killing five soldiers on the spot and forcing the rest to retreat.
According to BRAS, the following day, Pakistani forces returned and were lured into a planned trap when they spotted a temporary rebel camp. As the soldiers approached, BRAS fighters launched a two-pronged attack, killing eight more and injuring several others. The statement claimed that the soldiers, overwhelmed by the ambush, abandoned their motorcycles and fled.
Baloch Khan also accused Pakistani forces of targeting civilians in response to their losses, alleging that homes were set on fire, eight individuals were forcibly disappeared, and food supplies to the area were cut off.
During the battle, BRAS fighter Ghulam Rasool Marri, also known as Munshi Eido, was killed. The group stated that he was buried with military honors. BRAS described him as a long-time member of the Baloch resistance, highlighting his role in various battles in Bolan, Kohlu, and Kahan in the fifteen years he fought for Baloch independence as a member of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a member organization of BRAS.
He was also identified as the brother of Baz Khan Marri alias Darvesh Baloch, the first suicide attacker of the BLA’s Majeed Brigade. BRAS said that the ‘martyr’ had proved himslef a valuable asset of the BLA and was chosen as a member of the groups Special Tactical Operations Squad (STOS), the elite unit of BLA specializing in intelligence-based surgical operations.
The statement further warned local Levies personnel in Barkhan and surrounding areas to avoid supporting Pakistani forces, cautioning that continued collaboration could lead to direct targeting. BRAS called on community elders to prevent their members from aiding the military.
The group also claimed responsibility for seizing a supply vehicle meant for Pakistani forces in Barkhan and setting fire to a truck and four motorcycles. BRAS reiterated its commitment to continuing operations until what it described as the “complete withdrawal” of Pakistani forces from Balochistan.
