Armed assailants attacked a Frontier Works Organization (FWO) construction site in Turbat, Kech district, late on Monday night, setting machinery on fire and seizing a vehicle and a motorcycle.
According to local sources, a group of armed men stormed the FWO site in Nasirabad around midnight, warning workers to leave before torching heavy construction equipment. While the laborers were reportedly unharmed, the attackers seized a vehicle and a motorcycle before fleeing the scene.
The FWO was working on the Turbat-to-Mand road, a 20-billion-rupee project under the “South Balochistan Development Package,” which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti in December 2024.
It should be noted that construction companies involved in road and infrastructure development in Balochistan have frequently been targeted by Baloch “pro-independence” armed groups, who claim that such projects primarily serve military interests rather than benefiting the local population.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the latest attack, and Pakistani authorities have not issued a statement on the incident.
