On the night of October 2nd, Iran launched a large-scale ballistic missile attack on Israel. Iran claims that the attack targeted Israeli military installations and was carried out in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah’s Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, and Brigadier General Nilforoshan. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that if Israel retaliates against Iranian interests, the next attack will be even more severe. Israel has announced its intention to carry out retaliatory strikes against Iran’s missile attacks.
Since Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the clouds of war have been looming over the Middle East. However, on April 1, 2024, Israel attacked the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, killing Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and other officers. In response, on April 14, Iran, for the first time, launched direct missile and drone strikes on Israel, bringing both nations to the brink of war. However, efforts by global powers managed to halt the escalation.
The assassination of a Palestinian leader in Iran’s capital, Tehran, has further intensified the situation, and Israel’s widespread airstrikes in Lebanon, which killed Hezbollah leadership including their Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, led to Iran launching another major attack on Israel. The Middle East is once again on the brink of war, and Israel’s retaliatory strike on Iran could trigger a full-scale conflict. This war would likely involve the United States and engulf several other countries such as Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Jordan.
Iran is a neighboring country of the Baloch, and in the event of an official war with Israel, the heat of the conflict would reach Balochistan. Both sides of the Goldsmid Line—the Baloch regions—would be economically and politically affected. However, Baloch nationalist analysts hold conflicting views on whether a potential Iran-Israel war would present an opportunity for the Baloch independence movement or lead to further devastation.
