Abdul Wahid Bandeeg, the editor of the monthly ‘Balochi’ and former chairman of Balochi Academy Quetta passed away after a prolonged illness on June 5, 2023.

A well-wisher of the Balochi language, a journalist, a former member of the National Awami Party, the ex-president of the Balochi Academy and editor of the Monthly ‘Balochi’, Abdul Wahid Bandeeg son of Haji Khan Sheikh Hussaini departed this life on Monday.

Abdul Wahid Bandeeg basically belonged to the Noshki district of Balochistan but lived in Quetta for most of his life to serve the Balochi language and literature.

Bandeeg was not only a linguistic patriot but a member of the National Awami Party (NAP), the largest left-wing political party in Pakistan in the 1960-70s. Bandeeg was also a close friend of Mir GhousBakhsh Bezanjo, a renowned Baloch nationalist leader.

After the death of Azat Jamaldini, the founder of Monthly Balochi in 1956 until Bandeeg’s return to Balochistan in the 1980s, the Monthly was shut down. In September 1986, Bandeeg took charge of the Monthly ‘Balochi’ as Editor. Since then, the monthly has been published unabated to date.

In 1992, Abdul Wahid Bandeeg took membership in the Balochi Academy Quetta and was later designated as President of the Academy four times. On June 15, 2016, he resigned from his position at the academy due to health issues.

Abdul Wahid Bandeeg’s funeral prayers were offered on 6th June in his hometown Killi Sahibzadag, and he was laid to rest in Ahmed Cemetry.
