The struggle between good and evil is an eternal battle on Earth. At times, good bears the brunt of this conflict, while at other times, evil does. Unfortunately, in today’s Panjgur, the evil forces outweigh the good, which is particularly concerning given the importance of law and order in the region.

Panjgur is an agricultural district in the Makran division of Eastern Balochistan, a province in southern Pakistan. Although it is located close to Iran, a neighboring country, Panjgur has been plagued by a high crime rate. Crime has had a severe impact on victims, survivors, communities, and society at large, endangering both personal and societal security. Crime in Panjgur has also caused a general sense of indignity, as people realize that they could become victims of violence at any time. There are various causes of crime, and one of them can be linked to the gang activity in the region.

In 2022, over 80 people were killed in Panjgur, including a four-year-old child who was kidnapped from outside his home during the holy month of Ramadan. His body was later found in an abandoned house. Another heartbreaking incident occurred on the night of Laylat al-Qadr, when unknown persons assassinated the prominent Baloch poet and writer Engineer Yaqoob Ahmil in his home at night. These incidents highlight the growing sense of insecurity and anxiety among the people of Panjgur due to increasing crime rates. Many locals have lost their lives, and the situation was dire before the recently appointed DPO (District Police Officer), Imam Baksh, took charge of the position. Under his leadership, law and order in Panjgur improved significantly. Prior to his appointment, street crimes were rampant, creating a climate of fear and unease among the people, as ruthless robbers and killers roamed the streets, robbing and killing people without any hesitation. However, his exceptional efforts to combat the escalating criminal threat changed the opinions of the people, giving them hope for a better quality of life in their own city. Unfortunately, after his transfer, crime rates have once again increased in the city.

The police department is a critical pillar for the advancement and development of any country and society. It was created with the aim of eliminating all criminal, corrupt, and illegal activities from society. The stronger and more stable the police department is in society, the less crime and corruption there will be, and the more peace and security there will be. This is done to make society a source of peace, order, comfort, and satisfaction in the world by setting goals of success and prosperity. The police protect people’s property, lives, honor, dignity, and identities. Therefore, both the police and the general population are responsible for reducing crime by working together. Citizens often refuse to testify, and when the police build a case, criminals frequently receive bail.

Maintaining law and order has been a longstanding challenge for the residents of Panjgur, and the police department has tried to work with the public to restore social peace. Although such momentous realizations have occurred in the past, people still wonder what will happen next once the political landscape changes. Therefore, it is imperative that they unite their dispersed but potent force—the force of unification—and stand with their city rather than encouraging crime, no matter the motivation.
