Parts of Balochistan have been severely affected by heavy rains, powerful winds, and hailstorms, resulting in extensive damage to infrastructure, houses, and electrical systems and multiple injuries.
Thursday night saw stormy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, leading to the collapse of electricity poles, transformers, houses, and trees in the Turbat area of Balochistan. The downpour disrupted numerous electricity feeders, while rivers and streams swelled. Turbat’s administration has restricted heavy traffic on the Dokaram Bridge, and the Municipal Corporation Turbat is currently carrying out emergency repairs, with plans to restore traffic flow as soon as the work is completed.
Fishermen in Balochistan’s coastal regions have been advised not to venture out to sea between April 27 and the first week of May, due to the risk of high tides and storm surges. The likelihood of further heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms remains high.
During the heavy rains on Thursday, a woman in the Bela city of Balochistan sustained injuries when she was struck by lightning. She was taken to a hospital for urgent medical attention. The heavy downpour in various areas of Balochistan has disrupted daily life while obtaining accurate information on the situation remains limited due to the absence of electricity and internet services.
Meanwhile, in Bolan’s mountainous regions, flash floods followed the heavy rains, sweeping away five coal miners in Mach’s Geshteri area. Locals managed to rescue one injured person, while another miner found refuge on a high rock in the river. The search continues for the remaining three miners, who are members of the Marri tribe and were returning home after working in a coal mine.
