A spokesperson of the Raji Baloch Women Forum said in a statement that several acts of violence against women and girls have occurred this month, not just in Balochistan but also across Pakistan.

According to reports, a young girl in Awaran district of Balocchistan was murdered by her uncle on March 11, in the name of honour since she had married by her own choice. Later the accused was reportedly arrested but no justice has yet been served.

On the other hand, a woman in Panjgur district was allegedly murdered by her father and brother. According to local residents, she was subjected to frequent assault by her husband’s family, forcing her to leave her husband’s home and return to her father’s house, but they also harassed her on a regular basis in order to seize her property and then finally killed her.

Meanwhile, two more women were killed in the Jaffarabad district on March 27, in the name of honour and due to family feuds. According to sources, a man killed his wife in Arsalan Jakhrani village in the name of honour, while a mankilled his sister-in-law in Haji Jakhrani village due to family feuds.

In a statement, the Raji Baloch Women Forum strongly criticised and voiced concern about the safety of women in Balochistan and Pakistan. The Forum also called on government authorities, human rights organisations and civil society to speak out for justice and voice serious concern over the rising violence against women in Balochistan and all over Pakistan.
