Locals of Tehsil Jiwani in district Gwadar once again took to the streets to protest against the unavailability of water.

According to sources, scores of locals in tehsil Jiwani of district Gwadar took to the streets on Tuesday to protest against the water shortage in the area. The protesters marched on the main roads of the city and chanted slogans against the unavailability of water.

Speaking on the occasion a protester said that “the drought situation in Jiwani had been intentionally plotted.”

“Water shortage is a decade long issue in the area, but the department of health, district administration, elected representatives and provincial government have never taken any serious steps to resolve the issue of water shortage. Officials have not shown any sense of urgency towards the difficulties and pains of the natives of the Jiwani, they have only been giving false hopes to the locals.” A protester added.

Another protester expressing his concerns said that “Inhabitants of Jiwani are suffering severely because of the unavailability of water.”

Protesters demanded that “the issue of water shortage must be resolved on immediate basis in Jiwani and surrounding areas.”

“Residents of Gwadar and Jiwani are protesting against the shortage of water on a daily basis but the administration has never taken our concerns seriously. We ask the government to provide water to the Jiwani to prevent deaths because of droughts,” the protesters said.

It is to be noted that coastal regions of Balochistan are facing serious water shortages and residents of those areas have been protesting on a daily basis.

However, no serious steps have been taken by the Balochistan government to address and resolve the issue of water shortage.
