A massive fire broke out in a fruit and vegetable market in Ajman state of United Arab Emirate, on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, the fire broke out in the emirate’s new industrial area. Several fire brigades were seen rushing to the spot to put out the blaze.
The Ajman civil defense has urged motorists to take alternative routes.
Ajman firefighters have cordoned off the site and used water and foam in extinguishing the blazes which have broken out in many shops therein, Khaleej Times reported.
The souq has been closed for several months due to Covid-19 safety measures.
Workers at the neighboring market said that flames engulfed the area in a Jiffy.
The medical facility was evacuated as a precautionary measure due to the close proximity of the raging fire. Firefighters tackled the blaze, which sent thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.
It is not yet known if anyone was hurt as a result of the incident or the extent of the damage caused.
The souq, which is home to dozens of traders, is a popular attraction in Ajman, drawing visitors from across the Emirates.
