An explosion ripped through an election campaign gathering in northeastern Takhar province of Afghanistan, leaving several people dead or wounded, Khaama News reported.
The local officials confirmed that the incident has taken place in the vicinity of Rustaq district at around 2:45 pm local time.
A security official said at least 12 people have been killed and more than 30 others have sustained injuries in the explosion.
No individual or group including Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
Preliminary reports indicate the blast has targeted the gathering of a female parliamentary candidate Nazifa Yousufi Bek but the acting provincial security chief confirms the candidate has escaped the explosion unhurt.
