Pakistani Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has ordered large scale military operations in Balochistan to improve security conditions for Chinese funded multi-billion dollar project, China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
COAS General Qamar Bajwa visited the Headquarters of the Southern Command in Quetta on Thursday. He later chaired a high-level meeting and approved the plans to improve security environment in Balochistan.
The COAS was briefed in detail about the socio-economic and security environment of Balochistan.
According to details received by The Balochistan Post, Mr. Bajwa ordered further intensification in the military operations in Makuran and to initiate large-scale operations in Kalat and Khuzdar regions for complete clearance of the areas from ‘miscreants’.
The meeting also discussed the fallout for CPEC of recent FWO personnel killings by Balochistan Liberation Front in Makuran.
The COAS said no stone will be left unturned to improve the feasibility of CPEC in the region.
Baloch nationalist organisations allege the CPEC has resulted in complete exodus of many Baloch villages in Balochistan due to increasing number of military operations by Pakistani forces.
Baloch Liberation Front recently, in a video, claimed that CPEC will turn Baloch into a minority on their own land due to Chinese and Pakistani influx in the region. BLF said it does not accept any project that is against the will of Baloch nation.
