Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal has criticised the reported displacement of residents and the cutting of long-established orchards in Nushki, Mastung and Khadkocha, describing the measures as an example of land appropriation in Baloch areas.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Mengal said that when the state is unable to confront stronger opponents, it often responds by directing its frustration and failures towards local populations in an attempt to create an atmosphere of fear.
He said that such measures were producing the opposite effect and were contributing to growing resentment against the state. According to Mengal, the consequences of these policies could persist across generations.
Expressing concern over the situation in Nushki, Mastung and Khadkocha, Mengal said the rights of local residents should be protected and that their lands and orchards should be safeguarded.
His remarks come amid ongoing concerns regarding reported evictions and restrictions affecting local communities in several areas of Balochistan.
