The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) said on Tuesday that it carried out 45 operations across Balochistan between Aug. 22 and Aug. 31, claiming that 49 Pakistani military personnel were killed and many others injured.
In its latest detailed statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the operations targeted Pakistani military convoys, vehicles, camps, checkpoints and foot patrols, as well as police and Levies facilities, alleged operatives, commercial vehicles, trade routes and infrastructure.
The group said its fighters took control of Kharan’s Red Zone, several checkpoints and major highways, seizing weapons, vehicles and military equipment. It also said commercial traffic was targeted under what it calls an “economic blockade”, while four of its fighters were killed in clashes during the period.
The operations began on Aug. 22 with an improvised explosive device attack at Choto in the Balbal area of Zehri, where BLA fighters targeted Pakistani military personnel as they entered a temporary bunker.
The group claimed that two military personnel were killed and two others seriously injured in the explosion.
The same day, BLA fighters damaged a commercial vehicle at Charhai in Noshki and subsequently attacked Pakistani military foot patrol personnel, allegedly causing further losses.
In the Marjan area of Kalat, Pakistani forces were ambushed in an attack that killed four military personnel, according to the statement.
The BLA also provided details of its attack on a Pakistani military convoy in the Khadkocha area of Mastung, saying its Special Tactical Operations Squad (STOS) destroyed an armoured vehicle with an IED.
Another armoured vehicle was subsequently targeted with heavy weapons and severely damaged, while a third military vehicle was also hit during the attack.
The group claimed that 13 Pakistani military personnel were killed and more than 10 injured. One BLA fighter, identified as Ali Haider alias Kamal, was also killed during the clashes.
Elsewhere on Aug. 22, BLA fighters attacked the main Pakistani military camp at Albat in Kharan with rockets and other heavy weapons, while another unit maintained a highway blockade for several hours at Niamdargi.
An armed attack in the Hurmagay area of Washuk killed three Pakistani military personnel, injured several others and rendered a military vehicle inoperable, the group claimed.
At Charsar in the Dalbandin area of Chagai, the BLA said its fighters attacked commercial vehicles and a Pakistani military convoy, killing five personnel and injuring several others. Commercial vehicles were also damaged during the attack.
On Aug. 23, BLA fighters first targeted foot patrol personnel providing security to Pakistani military convoys in the Hairabad area of Turbat and subsequently attacked the main convoy.
The group claimed that three Pakistani military personnel were killed and three others injured in the two attacks.
On Aug. 24, the BLA said its fighters detained two Levies personnel in Mashkel following complaints that they were involved in extortion. Their weapons were confiscated, and both men were later released after what the group described as a “strict warning”.
The group also claimed that its fighters detained and killed six alleged Military Intelligence (MI) operatives from Punjab in the Saranan area of Pishin. It said the men had been taken into custody while travelling through the area.
Four commercial vehicles were separately seized and rendered inoperable at Chehatar on the Chagai trade route.
On Aug. 25, BLA fighters detained three Customs personnel in the Daali area of Kharan. The group said an investigation into the men was continuing.
A Pakistani soldier stationed at the main military camp in Albat, Kharan, was killed in a sniper attack the same day, according to the statement.
Near Mill Madrasa in Surab, BLA fighters targeted Pakistani military bomb disposal personnel with an IED, injuring two, the group claimed.
The statement detailed several operations carried out in Kharan on the night of Aug. 26, when the BLA said its fighters took control of the city’s Red Zone and other key locations, established checkpoints and conducted snap checks.
Three police personnel were detained outside the Deputy Inspector General of Police office, their weapons were seized and a police vehicle was set on fire and destroyed. The group said the detained officers were later released.
BLA fighters also destroyed a checkpoint and surveillance tower in the Red Zone with explosives, while another unit attacked the Latar checkpoint at Kulan Bypass with rockets and other heavy weapons, allegedly causing casualties and material losses.
The group separately claimed responsibility for killing Sanaullah, son of Attaullah Jamaldini, in the Grano area of Noshki.
It accused Sanaullah of working as an operative for Pakistani forces and involvement in recruiting informants, targeted killings and raids on civilian homes. The BLA also described him as a close associate of Muawiya Jamaldini, another alleged operative killed by the group the previous year.
In Dalbandin, BLA fighters detained a Pakistani forces personnel stationed at a gas plant and seized his weapon, the statement said.
On Aug. 27, the group said its fighters took control of a rest house used by Pakistani forces in the Chehatar area of Chagai and set it on fire.
A telecommunication tower was separately destroyed with explosives in the Ashani area of Barkhan.
On Aug. 28, BLA fighters established a blockade on the main highway at Pingu in Mastung and conducted snap checks.
The same night, another unit took control of Chehatar Bazaar in Chagai and conducted snap checks for four hours.
A blockade was also maintained throughout the night on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor route in the Wangu area of Khuzdar.
The group said Pakistani forces attempted to advance into Wangu at around 11 a.m. the following day and were ambushed by BLA fighters.
Armoured and other military vehicles were hit in the attack, killing three personnel and injuring at least four others, according to the statement.
On Aug. 29, the BLA said its fighters ambushed a Pakistani military convoy in Hairabad, Turbat, killing three personnel and injuring more than four.
Pakistani forces transporting supplies were separately targeted at Guro in Mastung, where the group claimed two personnel were killed and several others injured.
The BLA also said its fighters seized a commercial vehicle at Chehatar in Chagai and maintained control over highways at Chehatar, Karodak, Nokchah and the Gas Plant for several hours while conducting snap checks.
Near Gulf Hotel in Hub, a tanker belonging to the military-affiliated National Logistics Corporation was destroyed with a magnetic bomb, according to the statement.
Pakistani military personnel travelling on a motorcycle were also targeted with an IED at Darya Cham in the Dasht area of Kech, allegedly causing casualties.
On Aug. 30, BLA fighters simultaneously attacked hideouts belonging to alleged “death squad” members in the Gulistan area of Killa Abdullah.
The group claimed that two alleged operatives were killed and at least three injured, while a bunker at the location was destroyed.
A commercial vehicle was also seized on the trade route at Chehatar in Chagai.
The BLA separately claimed responsibility for killing Syed Noor, son of Bakhtiar Khan Sumalani and a resident of Shahrag, near Mastung city.
It accused him of collaborating with Pakistani forces and facilitating enforced disappearances and military operations.
Three BLA fighters were also killed in separate clashes on Aug. 30.
The statement identified them as Lal Khan alias Durak, who was killed during clashes with Pakistani forces in Washuk, and Zahoor Ahmed Langove alias Shekari and another fighter identified only by the alias Fauji, who were killed during fighting at Jori Cross in Surab.
The final operations listed for the period took place on Aug. 31, when the BLA said its fighters ambushed a Pakistani military convoy in the Daali area of Kharan, allegedly killing and injuring several personnel.
In the Kardgap area of Mastung, BLA fighters seized a commercial vehicle in one operation and targeted a convoy of commercial vehicles in another.
The group also said its fighters took control of two Levies Force checkpoints at Kanal and Lera Rek in Chagai, seizing weapons and vehicles. The detained Levies personnel were later released under its organisational policy.
The BLA further claimed responsibility for two earlier hand-grenade attacks carried out simultaneously against Kachi Baig police station and a Pakistani military camp on Muneer Ahmed Road in Quetta on Aug. 19, alleging casualties and material losses.
The statement also identified three BLA fighters killed in earlier drone attacks.
Maulvi Imran alias Omar and Muneer Ahmed alias Abdul Baseer were killed in a Pakistani military drone strike in Washuk on Aug. 7, while Sherbaz Bangulzai alias Gazzain was killed in a separate drone attack in the Dasht area of Mastung on July 14, according to the BLA.
The group paid tribute to Ali Haider alias Kamal, Lal Khan alias Durak, Zahoor Ahmed Langove alias Shekari, the fighter identified as Fauji, Maulvi Imran alias Omar, Muneer Ahmed and Sherbaz Bangulzai alias Gazzain.
Reiterating its policy on commercial and military traffic, the BLA said resistance across all fronts, including its “economic blockade” against Pakistani forces, alleged collaborators and projects it considers exploitative, would continue “with full force”.
The group pledged to continue its operations until what it described as “the establishment of an independent and sovereign Balochistan”.
