A first information report (FIR) was registered against Gwadar MPA Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch on Monday, a day after he alleged that Baloch women were being humiliated and their privacy violated at the Mundi checkpost in Balochistan’s coastal town of Gwadar.
On Sunday, Hidayat ur Rehman issued a video message from outside the checkpost, alleging that veiled women travelling from Jiwani and Pishukan were being stopped, made to remove their veils and stand in front of cameras while their photographs were taken.
He described the alleged practice as a violation of women’s dignity and privacy, saying the humiliation of women in the name of security would not be tolerated.
Hidayat ur Rehman called on the relevant authorities to immediately remove cameras that he said infringed on women’s privacy and to take notice of the matter.
He further said that if immediate action was not taken, he would return to the Mundi checkpost with members of the public and would be compelled to stage a sit-in there.
According to sources, the FIR was registered following Hidayat ur Rehman’s video statement and a complaint by a man identified as Fida Hakeem Rind.
The sections included in the FIR and further details from police regarding the case had not been made public at the time of publication.
