A young man has died in a suspected suicide in Kech district of Balochistan, local sources said on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Akhtar, son of Wajdad, allegedly shot himself in the Dannuk area of Turbat city. He was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear, and authorities have yet to establish the circumstances that led to the act.
In recent years, cases of self-harm and suicide have been on the rise across Balochistan. Local sources suggest that many incidents are linked to “harassment, blackmail and psychological pressure” allegedly from Pakistani security and intelligence agencies, particularly in areas affected by ongoing military operations.
Community elders also cite unemployment, poverty and lack of basic services as factors contributing to a deepening mental health crisis in the region.
