Pakistani security forces have come under attack in separate incidents in Balochistan’s Kalat and Awaran districts, resulting in multiple casualties, including the reported death of a senior army officer.
In Kalat, gunmen opened fire on a passenger coach travelling along the Quetta-Karachi highway. According to sources, the vehicle was carrying at least 48 military personnel and was en route from Karachi to Quetta when it came under attack near the Nimargh Cross area. Initial reports from district authorities confirm that three bodies were brought to a local hospital, though the death toll is expected to rise. Several others were wounded and transported to the Civil Hospital in Kalat for treatment.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed the incident, stating that three individuals were killed and seven others injured. He added that security forces, local administration, and rescue teams responded promptly and arrived at the scene. In the aftermath of the attack, security personnel cordoned off the Civil Hospital in Kalat and restricted civilian access to the facility.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the assault reflects a pattern of rising attacks on military convoys in the region. In recent months, military transport has frequently been targeted during transit. Notably, in early 2025, the Baloch Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility for two suicide attacks on buses carrying troops in Nushki and Turbat.
In a separate incident earlier the same day, a military convoy was ambushed in the Jhao area of Awaran district. The attack reportedly lasted over an hour, with sustained gunfire and explosions heard across the region. According to military sources, multiple soldiers were killed or wounded, including Major Rab Nawaz, a senior officer from Kashmir, who was leading the unit on a routine operation when it came under fire in the Gochro Kor area.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the Awaran attack either, the Balochistan Liberation Front has previously carried out attacks against security forces in the region.
