Key leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) were presented before an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta, which granted police a ten-day remand for further investigation into terrorism-related charges.
The individuals in custody include Dr Mahrang Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Ji, Beebarg Baloch, Ghafar Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, and Bebo Baloch.
According to police, cases have been registered against the six under anti-terrorism laws, and further time is required to complete the investigation. The court accepted the police request and ordered that the accused remain in custody for ten more days.
The six had previously been arrested under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law around three months ago. A review board meeting regarding their detention had been scheduled for today. However, a few hours before the hearing, the MPO orders were withdrawn, and the detainees were instead presented before the ATC.
Leaders from the Baloch Yakjehti Committee have criticised the development, calling it a “pre-planned move” aimed at entangling activists in what they describe as baseless and politically motivated cases. They have rejected the FIRs, calling them fabricated and an attempt to suppress Baloch political voices.
Authorities have not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations made by the committee.
