Authorities in Quetta have decided to seal all unofficial entry points to the city’s main railway station, three months after a suicide bombing by the Baloch Liberation Army’s (BLA) Majeed Brigade, which killed and injured dozens of Pakistani military personnel at the facility.
According to officials, open pathways and damaged walls along Joint Road, Chaman Phatak, and Sariab Road will be sealed, and station walls will be raised where necessary. The estimated cost of these security reinforcements is 945,000 Pakistani rupees.
Additionally, railway authorities have issued a tender for the repair of the station shed, which sustained damage in the explosion.
BLA’s November 2024 Suicide Attack
On November 9, 2024, a bomber from the BLA’s Majeed Brigade detonated explosives at the Quetta Railway Station, killing 31 non-commissioned officers and injuring over 60 others—one of the deadliest single attacks on military officers in Balochistan.
The bombing occurred around 8:20 a.m., near Zarghoon Road, as Pakistani soldiers prepared to board the Jaffer Express after completing training at the School of Infantry and Tactics.
In the immediate aftermath, Pakistani authorities declared a nationwide “red alert” at major railway stations, deploying additional police and bomb-disposal units. Rao Sardar Ali Khan, Inspector General of Railway Police in Karachi, confirmed the installation of walk-through gates and intensified security screening to prevent further attacks.
The decision to further strengthen perimeter security and shut down unauthorized access points reflects growing concerns over the expanding operational capabilities of Baloch “pro-independence” armed groups.
