Pakistani security forces were targeted in an attack in the Dasht area of district Kech on Monday. The forces were surrounded by unknown assailants in a well-coordinated attack and after a three-hour-long confrontation, 17 soldiers of the Pakistani forces were killed. The assailants reportedly set fire on the checkpoint and fled the scene. 

The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for the attack in a media statement. Gohram Baloch, the spokesperson for the group, said that the BLF fighters attacked the security forces’ outpost in Dasht, Kech, on Monday evening with heavy weaponry.

Gohram Baloch said that 13 soldiers stationed at the checkpoint were killed and one managed to escape. A convoy of security forces coming to the aid of their fellow soldiers was also ambushed and four other soldiers were killed, bringing the total kills to 17. BLF said that one of its fighters, Mumtaz Baloch alias Balaach, was “martyred” in the attack. 

The spokesperson said that the BLF fighters confiscated the weapons of the Pakistani forces and set the checkpoint on fire. Mumtaz Baloch’s body was moved to the camp and he was laid to rest with honour. BLF said that we pay tribute to the services of Mumtaz alias Balaach and his ultimate sacrifice for the Baloch cause. 

While the Identities of 8 personnel of Pakistani forces killed in the attack have been ascertained.
