Three homes belonging to families of forcibly disappeared men were attacked in Balochistan’s Kech district, local sources said, alleging the involvement of an armed group commonly referred to in the region as a “death squad”.

In Kalatuk, armed men riding motorcycles set off an explosive near the house of Master Mumtaz, son of Master Umeed Ali, before opening fire on the property, the sources said.

Solar panels were destroyed and the house was damaged, but no casualties were reported.

Two other homes were targeted in the same series of attacks, with belongings inside the properties set on fire and copies of the Quran also burned, according to the sources.

The three houses belong to the families of Luqman, son of Mumtaz; Abid, son of Javed; and Nauroz, son of Mohammad Ali.

The three men were reportedly detained by Pakistani forces on July 15 and subsequently disappeared. Their families have said they have received no information about their whereabouts since.

Local sources accused members of an alleged state-backed armed group of carrying out the attacks. The allegation could not be independently verified.

Homes have been targeted in several other incidents in Kech district in recent months.

Earlier this week, residents in Tump alleged that Pakistani forces set a house on fire during a raid.

Earlier in September, a house in Hothabad was attacked with grenades and gunfire, while another in nearby Hairabad was targeted in a bomb attack.

In June, residents of Gomazi also alleged that Pakistani forces damaged and demolished homes, confiscated valuables and mistreated civilians during a search operation. The same month, five women were injured when a house in Hairabad was attacked with hand grenades.

Pakistani authorities had not commented on the latest attacks or the allegations of state-backed involvement at the time of publication.
