The Government of Balochistan has approved the Coastal Highway Police and building of nine new police checkpoints along the Makran Coastal Highway for “security purposes.” Deputy Inspector General Highway and Patrolling Police, Barkat Hussain Khosa, has been given the task to build the required force to be stationed at these new posts.

According to the details, the Highway Police would comprise of 1000 officers and soldiers who would be stationed on different areas of the Makran Coastal Highway. Each checkpoint would house 100 police soldiers. Two rescue centres will be built along with the nine checkpoints which house 50 workers. In July next year, the government will begin recruiting workers from throughout Balcohsitan for this purpose. In the initial recruitment phase, 400 of the new Highway Police personnel will be recruited from Panjgoor, Turbat and Gwadar.

Three of the nine checkpoints will function as circle offices where DCPs (Deputy Superintendent of Police), two SP (Superintendent of Police) offices will be in Gwadar and Ormara and one DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) office will be built in Ormara.

The government expects the total cost of the project, along with the rescue centres and additional police offices, to be approximately 800 million rupees.
