A Chinese engineer was wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle in Karachi’s Shershah area on Wednesday morning. Baloch “pro-independence” group Balochistan Liberation Front claimed responsibility for the attack in a media statement.

According to DIG South Zone Karachi Javed Akbar Riaz, two Chinese nationals were on their way to their house in DHA when unidentified masked gunmen opened fire on their car near the Gulbai bridge in Karachi’s Shershah area. One of the engineers was wounded in the attack.

Balochistan Liberation Front claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that the Chinese engineers were critically wounded. BLF said that China has been abetting Pakistan in its exploitation and rampant human rights abuses in Balochistan.

BLF said that we are not involved in any conflict with any foreign power, but anyone aiding Pakistan in its “oppressive policies” in Balochistan will be at our gunpoint. We warn foreign powers to not abet Pakistan in any shape or form in its “occupation” of Balochistan, BLF warned.
