Two people were killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Turbat city of Kech district, on Wednesday night.

According to reports, Some unidentified armed men attacked a man named Shakir alias Shaheen son of Ghulam Sarwar in front of his house, in Shehrak area of Turbat.

Shakir was along with his accomplice Zahid son of Dehkan Kahoor, at the time of the attack. Both the men died on the spot.

According to sources, Shakir was a former member of a “pro-independence” Baloch armed group—who had surrendered to the Pakistan army.

The responsibility of the attack was later claimed by a “pro-independence” group, the United Baloch Army (UBA), on Thursday.

Mureed Baloch, a spokesman for the UBA, said in press release that UBA fighters targeted and killed the surrendered Shakir alias Shaheen, on Wednesday night at around 10 pm.

According to Mr Baloch, Shakir alias Shaheen had been associated with Baloch armed groups for a long time. After that, Shakir alias Shaheen was active in the Pakistan Army’s reared death squad and was seen with the Pakistani army in several operations to pursue the freedom fighters and looting, bullying, drug trafficking and social crimes. “He was directly involved in the evils and had set up a drug den in his area to destroy the Baloch youth,” Mureed Baloch said.

He further said that a close friend of Shakir, Zahid son of Dehkan Kahoor was also killed in the same attack. Zahid was an innocent man and he tried hard to save Shakir alias Shaheen, due to which he unintentionally got killed. “Our organization sincerely sympathizes with the family of Zahid son of Dehkan Kahoor, UBA spokesperson added.

Mureed Baloch said that Baloch armed groups have repeatedly stated that Baloch civilians should stay away from the Pakistani Army and its death squads.
