Prime Minister Khan has nominated Sadiq Sanjrani as the chairman senate.
Sadiq Sanjrani, the current Chairman of senate, will once again contest for the position as a PTI candidate. Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday announced the nomination of Sadiq Sanjrani as the ruling coalition candidate for the office of chairman Senate.
The Federal Information Minister, Shibli Faraz announced Sanjrani’s nomination on Twitter as the chairmanship of the parliament’s upper house.
As per the sources within the ruling coalitions, many party members did not want to see Sanjrani again as Senate chairman and wanted the party leadership to nominate a genuine party activist or member for the coveted slot. Political experts have cautioned that if the PTI insisted on Sanjrani’s nomination, it could face a similar situation which it faced after nominating Hafeez Sheikh against Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Earlier on Wednesday, the mainstream opposition party, the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) candidate Gailani won in senate elections over the PTI candidate Sheikh. In a major blow to the PTI government, the joint opposition candidate Gilani won the hotly contested general seat from Islamabad.
On Sanjrani’s nomination, many ruling party members also believed if the PTI did not back Sanjrani, then this act would annoy the Balochistan Awami Party, which is now the fourth largest party in the Senate.
