Nepal has protested the inauguration of a new road by India. The Nepali position is that the road was built in the disputed area.

According to details, several people have also been arrested in protest outside the Indian embassy.

The Nepalese government on Saturday objected to India’s construction and inauguration of the road, saying it was built in a disputed area. The road was formally inaugurated by Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday, May 8.

This road said to be is very important for India as it is located near the Chinese border.

The road through the disputed area connects the Indian state of Uttarakhand with the border town of Dharchula. Dharcula is strategically located in Dara Lapu Lekh, which is very close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC),  the border between India and China.

The Indian government’s view on this says that the construction of this road will make it easier for Hindu pilgrims to reach Kailash, a sacred place, the highest point in the region, known as Lake Mansarovar, which is also considered sacred by Buddhists.

The construction of the road has also reduced the time taken to reach the remote site of Kailash. The ancient temples on the way to Kailash are also considered sacred by Hindu devotees, Indian government’s statement said.

The area on the other side of Dara Lapu Lekh, on the south side, is called Kalapani. This is the disputed border between India and Nepal. The Nepalese government has declared Kalapani, including road construction, as its territory in its protest statement.

Nepal has also demanded that India immediately stop all activities in the region.

The Mahakali River was demarcated in 1816 under an agreement between Nepal and the then British government. The river flows through the Kalapani area. The Mahakali River also includes many tributaries.

According to the Indian position, due the confluence of several rivers in Mahakali gives rise to the river Kalapani, while according to Nepal, this river starts from Dara Lapu Lekh.
