Parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman has been killed in an attack by Taliban militants.

An explosion ripped through the office of a parliamentary candidate in Lashkargah city, the provincial capital of southern Helmand province in Afghanistan on Wednesday.

The incident took place in the office of Abdul Jabar Qahraman and as a result a number of people have been killed or wounded.

Qahraman, a military veteran, was a candidate for the 17th parliamentary election of Afghanistan.

A police source confirmed that the parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman lost his life in the explosion which was triggered by an explosive device planted in his office.

Earlier this month another candidate, Saleh Mohammad Khan Achakzai, was killed in a suicide attack at his campaign headquarters in Lashkargah.

So far 10 candidates have been killed in various provinces of Afghanistan.

Taliban claim the responsibility:

The militant group Taliban in Afghanistan has claimed responsibility for the explosion in parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman’s office in Lashkargah city, the provincial capital of Helmand province.

The Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi in a statement claimed that the candidate has been killed along with his three colleagues in the tactical explosion.
