Drone and mortar attacks targeted a Pakistani forces camp in Balochistan’s Kharan district on Thursday, days after a drone attack on another camp in Surab, local sources said.
Sources from Kharan said a main camp in Patkin was targeted in five drone strikes and then came under mortar fire. They said Pakistani forces suffered casualties and material losses, but no official figures were immediately available.
Meanwhile, another forces camp in Kharan’s Albat area was targeted by a drone, but the explosives mounted on it failed to detonate.
The attacks in Kharan came three days after drones targeted a Pakistani forces camp at Tarki Dam in Surab. Local sources said around 10 explosions were heard inside the camp, but the extent of any casualties or damage remained unclear.
Pakistani authorities had yet to provide details of the attacks.
No armed organisation had claimed responsibility for the attacks at the time of reporting. However, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed earlier drone attacks on Pakistani military positions in Balochistan.
Earlier this year, the group announced the launch of its aerial unit, “QAHR” (Qazi Aero Hive Rangers), during the second phase of “Operation Herof” and said it had attacked targets including Gwadar Port.
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said at the time that the unit had “successfully completed its initial operations”, adding that drone technology enabled the group to conduct long-range strikes and reach “sensitive locations” at “unexpected moments”.
He said modern warfare was no longer confined to the ground and described QAHR as the organisation’s “initial but significant presence” in air and other domains.
