A rights organisation has alleged that several individuals, including students and a woman, were subjected to enforced disappearance in Karachi earlier this week.
According to the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), at least nine people, including a woman, were reportedly taken into custody during the early hours of 8 April 2026 from the Haji Shah Ali Goth, Sharafi area of Karachi.
The group identified the individuals as 18-year-old Salman, son of Sharif; 16-year-old Shahzad, son of Jamil; 24-year-old Shakeela, daughter of Naseer; 30-year-old Rizwan, son of Faiz; 40-year-old Imran, son of Faiz; 35-year-old Naseer, son of Khair Mohammed; 25-year-old Adnan, son of Faiz; 22-year-old Bilal, son of Khair Mohammed; and 22-year-old Sabir, son of Faiz. They are said to belong to various areas, including Panjwan Jiwani in Gwadar and parts of Karachi.
The organisation claims the detentions took place at approximately 2:00 am and has alleged the involvement of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). It further stated that those taken were moved to undisclosed locations.
Among those listed are students, a Quran teacher, labourers, a security guard, and a police constable, according to the group’s statement.
There has been no immediate confirmation or response from Pakistani authorities regarding these allegations.
Enforced disappearances remain a contentious issue in Balochistan, where rights groups have repeatedly raised concerns about detentions without due process. Pakistani officials have previously stated that security operations are conducted in accordance with the law.
Human rights organisations have consistently expressed concern over such allegations, calling for greater transparency and adherence to legal procedures.
