A religious scholar associated with Afghanistan’s Supreme Court has urged Pakistani religious scholars to support the Baloch and criticized the Pakistani military in a video message circulating online.

Mufti Sheikh Abdul Rauf called on Pakistani scholars to abandon what he described as “expediency” and clarify their position.

He alleged that the Pakistani army had committed abuses against local populations in Balochistan and elsewhere, and accused it of carrying out attacks in Afghanistan.

Responding to remarks by Pakistani officials describing Afghans as “ungrateful,” he questioned what injustices the Pakistani army had not committed against Afghans.

Abdul Rauf further alleged that former Afghan defence minister Mullah Obaidullah was killed in custody, that religious scholar Ustad Yasir was arrested and forcibly disappeared and remains missing, and that Pakistan assisted the United States in the killing of Taliban leader Mullah Mansour.

Rauf urged the Pakistani public to reassess what he described as the country’s policies.
