A Karachi court on Monday acquitted Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) deputy organizer Lala Abdul Wahab Baloch and 11 other activists after prosecutors failed to prove charges against them, the group said.
Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Naim Akhtar issued the order in a case registered in January 2025 under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including 124-A and 123-A.
Those acquitted include Sarfaraz Baloch, Zain Baloch, Aftab Baloch, Qazi Amanullah, Murad Baloch, Waheed Baloch, Ahmed Nisar, Ehsan Hameed, Sajid Baloch, Aamir Baloch and Ahsan Faraz Baloch.
The case stemmed from rallies held on Jan. 25, 2025, when the BYC marked the day as “Baloch Genocide Day” and organized demonstrations in Karachi and several towns in Balochistan.
In a statement, the BYC welcomed the ruling, saying the allegations were “unsubstantiated” and describing the case as politically motivated.
The group said several other BYC leaders, including Dr Mahrang Baloch, remain in custody in separate cases, adding that their continued detention raised concerns about “prolonged incarceration” and the use of legal processes to “suppress political dissent”.
