Three Pakistani soldiers were killed and several others injured in separate attacks in Kech, Awaran and Gwadar districts of Balochistan, local officials and sources said on Wednesday.
An official in Kech district said two soldiers were injured when a convoy of the army’s Light Commando Battalion came under attack on the Zubaida Jalal Main Road in the Tump–Nazarabad area. He said an additional Frontier Corps unit was sent from Tump to reinforce the forces in the area.
Local sources said the convoy had been moving toward the southern mountains for an operational deployment when unidentified men opened fire from surrounding hills.
They added that armed men had been sighted in the region since Tuesday, setting up temporary checkpoints, conducting searches and destroying a communication tower. Two vehicles were also seized, they said.
In a separate incident, three soldiers were killed in an improvised explosive device blast in Awaran’s Pirandar area, a local official said. The dead were identified as Naik Deen Muhammad, Sepoy Irfan and Adnan. A fourth soldier, Lance Naik Younus, was injured.
Meanwhile, in the coastal district of Gwadar, local sources said armed men attacked a police post at Kaawri Point on the Coastal Highway and took weapons from the site on Tuesday evening.
They said an army convoy travelling on the highway was later ambushed and that several soldiers were feared killed, but there was no official confirmation from security officials.
