All train services operating to and from Quetta have been suspended due to prevailing security concerns in Balochistan. According to railway officials, no trains will operate from Quetta on 10 July 2025.
The Jaffar Express (39 Up), which runs from Quetta to Peshawar, and its return service (40 Down) from Peshawar to Quetta, have both been suspended for their scheduled departures on 9 and 10 July.
Similarly, the Bolan Mail (4 Down), which travels from Quetta to Karachi, will also not operate on 10 July.
Sources indicate that the decision followed a request from Frontier Corps (FC) officials, who urged railway authorities to halt operations temporarily in light of the current security risks in the Quetta division. As a result, train movement has been suspended in the region until at least 10 July.
Earlier this year, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for hijacking the Jaffar Express and taking over 200 Pakistani military personnel hostage. The group later stated that all captives had been executed after negotiations for a prisoner exchange reportedly failed and military operations resumed.
The operation, carried out by the BLA’s Majeed Brigade, was unprecedented in the region and has significantly disrupted train services across Balochistan.
