Two miners have died after a gas buildup in a coal mine near Dukki in Balochistan.
The accident occurred early Thursday morning, filling the Damdar coal mines, located three kilometers from Dukki, with toxic gas and trapping three miners inside.
Local miners, the Mines Department, and district authorities launched a rescue operation. One miner, Hafeezullah, was rescued alive. The bodies of the other two miners, identified as Habib-ur-Rehman and Saifullah, were recovered after an eight-hour effort.
The deceased miners were taken to Civil Hospital in Dukki and then sent to their home regions in Afghanistan.
It is important to note that mining accidents are frequent in Balochistan, where thousands work in often unsafe conditions. Labor unions blame poor safety facilities and substandard equipment for many of these incidents.
