Over the past two decades, students, activists, journalists, and ordinary civilians have vanished, leaving families gripped by uncertainty and fear. This pervasive climate of loss has deeply scarred the emotional and psychological fabric of the region.

Thousands of children await the return of missing fathers, while figures like Sammi Deen Baloch and Mehlab Deen Baloch have spent their youth in protest camps, tirelessly campaigning for their fathers’ safe return—yet often met with silence. Others, like Dr. Mahrang Baloch, have grown up without the affection and guidance of a father, living with the loss as part of their daily reality.

Across Balochistan, women live in agonizing limbo, unsure if they are widows. They struggle to console grieving children, while elderly parents cling to the hope of reuniting with missing sons—many passing away without ever knowing their fate.

Human rights organizations and Baloch nationalists allege that Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and security forces are behind these disappearances—a claim the Pakistani government denies. However, evidence gathered by activists and rights groups paints a troubling picture, suggesting a systemic issue.

BLA Releases Video of Hammal Maritime Defence Force’s 2nd Attack in Jiwani

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has released a two-minute video of an attack on Pakistani Coast Guards boats in Jiwani, a coastal area of Gwadar district in Balochistan. According to the BLA, 13 Pakistani personnel were killed in the attack. The video, released through the group’s official media channel, Hakkal, shows armed men aboard a boat. The organisation identified them as members of its maritime unit, the Hammal Maritime Defence Force (HMDF), and said they used a boat equipped with modern weapons to target two Pakistani Coast Guards boats patrolling the waters off Jiwani. The Hammal Maritime Defence Force is a maritime unit established by the BLA, which announced its formation on 13 April 2026. The group has described the Jiwani attack as its second operation involving the unit. On 12 April 2026, the BLA claimed to have targeted a Pakistani Navy patrol boat near Mil Tiyab in Jiwani, describing the incident as the HMDF’s first operation. The group also released a video of that first operation.

Four Bodies Recovered in Balochistan’s Kalat District

The bodies of four unidentified people have been recovered from two separate locations in Kalat district, Balochistan, and shifted to nearby government health facilities for medico-legal procedures and identification. According to police sources, three bodies were found in the Chhappar area of Kalat, while another was recovered from Malangzai in Manguchar. Police sources said the three bodies recovered from Chhappar were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Kalat, while the body found in Malangzai was taken to a Rural Health Centre (RHC). The identification process is under way. Police sources further stated that all four individuals appeared to have been subjected to torture and shot dead. Their identities and the motives behind the killings remain unknown. The recovery of unidentified bodies has been reported in various parts of Balochistan over the years. Some individuals found dead in such circumstances have later been identified as people who had previously been reported missing. Families of missing persons and human rights groups have repeatedly alleged that some were victims of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killings. On the previous day, ten bodies were recovered in Barkhan district. One of the deceased has so far been identified as a person who had allegedly been forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for an attack on two Pakistan Coast Guards boats in Jiwani, a coastal area of Gwadar district in Balochistan, claiming that 13 personnel were killed. In a statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the group’s maritime unit, the Hammal Maritime Defence Force (HMDF), simultaneously targeted two large Coast Guards boats in what he described as a coordinated and intense attack. He claimed that 13 personnel were killed at the scene. There was no immediate response from Pakistani authorities regarding the reported attack or casualties. Jeeyand Baloch said the BLA had formally announced the establishment of the HMDF on 13 April 2026, describing it as part of the group’s efforts to expand the scope of the Baloch independence movement and protect Balochistan’s maritime territory, coastline and resources. Armed Checkpoint in Harnai, Two Punjab Residents Abducted

Armed men reportedly established a checkpoint on the Harnai–Sanjavi Highway in Balochistan and abducted two men from Punjab while inspecting vehicles at Tor Kham Tangi. According to reports, the armed men stopped vehicles and checked passengers’ identity cards before taking the two men to an undisclosed location. Harnai police identified the abducted men as Asghar, son of Muhammad Asif, and Tariq. Both are reportedly residents of Chowk Qureshi in Muzaffargarh district, Punjab. Police said the two men were non-local residents who worked as truck drivers. No one had claimed responsibility for the incident at the time of publication. Such incidents have been reported in various parts of Balochistan amid a long-running conflict involving Baloch nationalist armed groups and Pakistani military and law-enforcement agencies. Baloch armed groups have periodically established temporary checkpoints on highways, inspected vehicles and carried out attacks on security installations, particularly in districts including Kachhi, Kalat, Nushki, Kech, Kharan and Mastung. In September, armed checkpoints were reported across several districts of Balochistan, including Kharan, Kalat and Surab. Separate reports from Nushki indicated that armed men had entered the city and allegedly seized weapons from police personnel.
