Pakistan and Iran have made further progress in their bilateral relations, joining hands against what they call the common challenge of militancy.

According to Pakistani diplomatic sources, work on mutual security agreements with Iran is ongoing, and liaison officers’ appointments have been initiated. Both countries are enhancing mutual cooperation to counter militancy, with joint efforts initiated against militants on the Goldsmid Line.

Thsi week, liaison officers from Pakistan and Iran will take charge of their respective duties, sources said.

The Pakistani liaison officer wil be from the Pakistan Army, while the Iranian liaison officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. Both officers will be the rank of colonel in their respective armies.

Diplomatic sources have stated that Pakistani liaison officers will be stationed in Zahedan (Iranian-administrated Balochistan), while Iranian IRGC liaison officers will be stationed in Turbat (Pakistani-administarted Balochistan). The decision to appoint officers was made during the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Pakistan on January 29.

Diplomatic sources have indicated that both countries are committed to restricting armed militant organizations operating in the regioin. The agreement also includes intelligence sharing and mutual assistance.
