At least one policeman was killed and four others were injured in a bomb blast in Quetta, the Capital of Balochistan on Tuesday.

According to reports, a convoy of Pakistani security forces and Police patrolling with horses and vehicles was reportedly targeted by unidentified individuals in a bomb attack on Spini Road near Arbab CNG station in Quetta.

Law enforcement agencies immediately cordoned off the area after the attack and launched an investigation.

The blast took place at a time when security was on high alert in the capital city due to Muharram. Pakistan Army personnel were also patrolling on various highways of the city while the blockade has increased since the blast.

Meanwhile, the police confirmed to the media that the blast occurred due to gas pressure and that a child sustained minor injuries due to the blast. However, Balochistan’s most active “pro-independence,” armed group, The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.

The group’s spokesperson, Jeeyand Baloch, said that BLA fighters targeted a convoy of Pakistani police, consisting of vehicles and horses with an IED. “At least one police personnel was killed and four others were injured in the attack,” the statement read.
