The Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS) discredited the CTD’s claims of arresting two men on the charges of “sabotage and vandalism.” The group said that the two men are political activists who were picked up by the Pakistani security forces from Karachi, and now they are being “framed” on baseless charges.

VMPS chair Soorath Lohar said in a statement the Pakistani forces had picked up Zaheer Bimsil Butt on June 14 when he was on his way from Mohen-Jodaro to Karachi. She said that he was a journalist, a writer and a political activist.

Similarly, the security forces also detained another man, Sadar Ud-Din, from Jamshoro. Lohar said that activists had carried out protests for their safe return, and their ample evidence to substantiate their status as missing persons.

Soorath Lohar said that the Counter-Terrorism Department Hyderabad has now claimed that the two men were arrested in Tando Allah Yar Khan on the charges of “sabotage and vandalism” and alleged that they were members of a proscribed group, which is totally false.

The VMPS chair discredited the CTD’s claims as “false” and appealed to the human rights organizations and the judicial bodies of Sindh to launch an investigation into the “false arrests” of political activists in Sindh and hold the police forces accountable.

The group also announced demonstrations in Karachi and other areas of Sindh on August 30 to mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.
