Coronavirus cases have seen a sudden spike in Balochistan’s district Kech in the past few days. The positivity rate shot to a whopping 60% a few days earlier and an immediate emergency was imposed in all the hospitals. Healthcare officials were overwhelmed by the new wave and hospitals ran out of oxygen for the infected patients.

After a meeting with the district authorities, the traders’ association of Kech decided to impose a two-day complete lockdown – on July 23-24 – in district Kech to counter the alarming rise in coronavirus infections. They will monitor the situation and the impact of the lockdown and plan accordingly.

A delegation of the traders’ association met with Deputy Commissioner Kech Hussain Jan to discuss the rising coronavirus infections in the district. The deputy commissioner advised the delegation to immediately observe a complete lockdown in Kech and utilize other countermeasures – like social distancing and frequent handwashing – to curb the spread of the virus.

The delegation decided that a two-day self-imposed lockdown was the best option at their disposal. The traders’ association requested the general public to cooperate and directed them to refrain from any kind of large gathering, maintain social distancing, wear masks in crowded public places and frequently wash their hands. Furthermore, they requested the shopkeepers to vaccinate themselves from the vaccination centres in the city so that the virus could be contained.
