The Pakistani security forces were targeted in an attack in district Harnai, Balochistan, on Saturday. Baloch “pro-independence” group United Baloch Army (UBA) claimed responsibility for the attack in a media statement, saying that the forces sustained heavy material damages and life losses.
The UBA said in the statement that its fighters attacked the army cant in Harnai on Saturday evening. The UBA spokesperson said that the fighters used heavy weaponry to inflict maximum damage on the Pakistani security forces. Two of their several rockets landed in the cant compound, causing heavy material damage. The forces also suffered several fatalities, the statement said.
In a separate incident in Panjgur, the Baloch Republican Army (BRA) – one of the several “pro-independence” groups active in Balochistan said that its fighters repelled an attack from the Pakistani security forces. The BRA spokesperson, Beebgar Baloch, said in a media statement that the forces ambushed their camp in Kelkor area of district Panjgur. A significant number of land forces, assisted by gunship choppers, marched on their makeshift camp. The BRA fighters were alerted in time and using guerrilla tactics of warfare, the fighters not only thwarted the attack but also killed and wounded several Pakistani soldiers in the combat, he said.
The BRA spokesperson said that the vanquished Pakistani forces then bombarded a civilian settlement in the area, killing two innocent civilians. He said that the army gunship helicopters bombed a house in the area which led to the death of Bhola s/o Mola Buksh and Asaa s/o Maaro, both shepherds. He said that the forces then indiscriminately harassed the women and children in the area.
Beebgar Baloch said that the area in question is associated with China’s imperial China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the flagship project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative to dominate the global trade. To make this endeavor successful, the Pakistani forces are executing a “genocide” with a bit of help from some local “parliamentary” parties. He said that his group, the BRA, will continue its fight against such quislings.
